Several job openings in integrated assessment modeling and the low carbon economy (Milan, Italy)

The RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE), a research institute co-founded in 2018 by Resources for the Future and the CMCC Foundation – Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, encourages to submit applications for several junior and senior researcher positions.

The successful candidates will work on either of these two broad topics:

  • Integrated Assessment Modeling: maintaining and developing the WITCH IAM, focusing on either energy systems, macro-economic modeling, distributional impacts, technological change, uncertainty and decision making.
  • The low carbon economy: quantitative and/or qualitative analyses of the low carbon transformation, including, but not limited to, green innovation, competitiveness, employment, human migration, climate finance and policy evaluation.

Candidates should have a PhD or be near its completion. The PhD should be in economics, but PhDs in energy engineering/mathematics/physics/computer science/statistics coupled with economic background are also welcome.

Experience in econometrics, survey, and proficiency in at least one computer language are important requirements. Knowledge in R, GAMS, Stata, Python, or Julia are an asset for the integrated assessment modeling position.

Duties will be carried out in Milan, in the heart of the vibrant design district (@BASE).

The selected candidate will interact with researchers of different nationalities. She-he will focus on writing top quality papers, will be engaged in a global network and will have the chance to attend major conferences. An excellent command of written and spoken English is essential for this position.

EIEE is a new research institute which combines the excellence of environmental and energy economics of RFF with the climate science and policy competences of CMCC. The strong ties with a world-wide network of research institutions engaged in environmental research, climate change, and economics allow for a very interactive, collaborative and interdisciplinary work and research experience.

Assignment are expected to being in the fall of 2018/early 2019. The appointment period will be initially of one year, renewable for an additional two years. The gross salary will be based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centres in Europe.
