The transition from linear to circular product value chains stands as one of the EU’s most pressing sustainability ambitions. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) has emerged as a central policy instrument in this transition, yet existing EPR schemes have largely remained confined to recycling, falling short of unlocking higher-order circular strategies such as reuse, repair, and redesign. DemoEPR responds to this gap by bringing together a transdisciplinary consortium of industry practitioners, consumer organisations, and world-class researchers to co-create next-generation EPR solutions for ICT products — a sector at the heart of digital transformation and circular economy challenges alike.

General Objectives

DemoEPR aims to transform Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for ICT products from narrow recycling-focused instruments into comprehensive circular economy enablers, addressing the full waste hierarchy including reuse, repair, and refurbishment.

Expected Results

DemoEPR is expected to deliver seven validated pilots demonstrating innovative EPR solutions for ICT products, alongside a robust evidence base on the economic, environmental, and social impacts of existing and prospective EPR schemes. The results from the different activities will be merged to generate a roadmap for European EPR.
