Catarina Midões

Catarina Midões is a postdoctoral researcher whose research focuses primarily on the impacts of climate change on physical and mental health and on barriers to the adoption of protective behaviors. Since 2025, she has been working on climate shelters and heat risk communication. Previously, Catarina worked at the Brussels-based think tank Bruegel and at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, where she contributed to research on the design, implementation, and evaluation of European public policies. At Bruegel, she co-authored studies for the European Commission and the European Parliament assessing and proposing changes to policies including Cohesion Policy and the Green Transition Fund. At the Joint Research Centre, she studied the implementation of Structural Reforms. She also worked as an Economic Analyst at the consultancy Oxera in England. Her research has additionally focused on impact evaluation and statistical inference applied to measures of inequality.

Catarina holds PhDs in Economics from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, completed under a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship. She also holds a Master’s degree in Econometrics from Maastricht University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Nova SBE in Lisbon.
