Luis Sarmiento currently works as Junior Scientist at EIEE and research associate at the department of environment, energy, and transportation of the German Institute of Economic Research (DIW Berlin).
He obtained his doctoral degree in economics from the Berlin Institute of Technology. His research focuses on environmental and energy economics, with a particular focus on applied micro-econometrics and numeric modeling. Regarding environmental economics, he studies the effect of global externalities like pollution, climate, and energy infrastructure on several realms of human affairs like health, productivity, wellbeing, and labor supply. Concerning energy economics, he uses numeric modeling to analyze the decarbonization pathways of energy systems.
