Margaretha Breil

Senior Scientist

Margaretha Breil, PhD in Urban Planning (RWTH Aachen, Germany, 1992) and Master in Valuation of Urban and Environmental Policies (IUAV Venice, Italy, 2003), is an urban and regional planner with a specialization in valuation of urban, regional and environmental policies. She is working at CMCC (ECIP division) since 2009 focussing on strategies for climate change adaptation in urban and regional contexts and on valuation models for environmental transformations; she is interested principally with the socio-economic challenges of adaptation and of the implementation of horizontally and vertically integrated climate change strategies, in particular on urban and coastal environments. Further to her experiences in FP 7 and H2020 research projects, she has collaborated in several occasions as an Expert with the EU Commission especially within the EKLIPSE initiative for the definition of an Impact Evaluation Framework for Nature Based Solutions (2016) and in the evaluation of several research projects and proposals. Since 2014 she is task leader of the urban adaptation task within the ETC/CCA and is, since 2018, co- leading the task on trans-national adaptation.
