Offshore Wind Energy: Where is it going, what can we do about it, and why should we care?- 17 June 2019

Wind energy supply has grown rapidly over the last decade. I will summarize the results of an expert elicitation survey of 163 of the world’s foremost wind experts, aimed at better understanding future costs and technology advancement possibilities. I will focus on offshore wind energy, comparing the expert judgements to data-based forecasts. I then go on to present a method for estimating the climate value of offshore wind energy under a range of policies, including carbon taxes and carbon limits. We find that reducing barriers to the diffusion of offshore wind energy has significant climate value.
