ENTICE
Enhancing our understanding of Trade Impacts on Climate, Industries, and the Environment

In today’s interconnected global economy, understanding the trade-climate nexus is more critical than ever. Trade policies significantly influence environmental outcomes, while climate change affects trade flows. However, the complex relationship between these areas remains insufficiently explored, often due to data limitations, gaps in economic modelling, and the evolving nature of global supply chains.
ENTICE is a multidisciplinary Horizon Europe project that aims to advance our knowledge and understanding of the interconnections between trade and climate.
General Objectives
The ENTICE project is structured around eight interconnected objectives, each contributing to our overarching ambition. Achieving these goals will enable us to comprehensively understand and address the multifaceted relationship between trade and climate.
-
Enhance scientific knowledge and provide a new paradigm for modelling of trade and trade policy on climate
-
Extend the statistical and empirical data foundation to support the study of the effects of trade and trade policies on climate
-
Develop a state-of-the-art modelling toolbox to provide insights on climate and trade policy interactions
-
Improve our understanding on how key trade characteristics like scale, technique, and composition affect the environment
-
Enhance our understanding of the environmental impacts of trade in agriculture, forestry, material resources, and (bio-) energy sectors and the interaction between trade liberalisation and environmental regulations
-
Analyse the impact and interplay of existing and emerging trade, climate, and industrial policies
-
Implement research and develop tools that directly respond to stakeholder needs
-
Emphasise on transparency, openness, and legitimacy
Expected Results
The ENTICE project aims to bridge these knowledge gaps by advancing our understanding of the trade-climate-industry (TCI) nexus. It examines how trade policies impact environmental sustainability and how climate policies shape global trade dynamics. By developing fact-based insights and innovative modelling tools, ENTICE supports informed decision-making at this crucial intersection of trade, climate, and sustainability.
